“I have bad news, and I have good news,” said the airline pilot over the PA system. “We lost our direction, but we are getting there very fast.”


At the beginning of every live seminar I present, I look out over the audience, which can range from several hundred to several thousand people, and ask them to raise their index fingers and point — at the count of three — in the direction they believe is true north from where they are sitting. I ask them to keep their hands raised and then look around the room. There’s always a collective roll of laughter, since the index fingers are pointing in every conceivable direction. 


Getting out a compass to show them the correct direction of true north, I then ask everyone to now point the way with me....
