Health care reform will share center stage with a few other pressing issues in 2014. The spotlight placed on immigration reform and the minimum wage in late 2013 is not expected to dim. Meanwhile, tax reform, menu labeling and state franchising laws also are likely to gain momentum. But while some legislative and regulatory initiatives may seem purely problematic to operators, others present opportunity, according to the industry’s government watchdogs. The key, they said, is getting the highly segmented industry to speak with one voice so any new or reformed laws work to benefit rather than harm the whole.
