WARREN Mich. Family eatery operator and franchisor Big Boy Restaurants International LLC, based here, has named Micros Systems Inc. and its e7 product a preferred point-of-sale-system vendor and technology for its namesake chain with approximately 265 U.S. restaurants, Micros said.

"From a back-office perspective, managing procedures, reports and menu changes can be done on the fly using the Micros e7 POS touchscreen with virtually no training," said Paul Black,  BBRI's chief financial officer. "As we are incorporating menu items and sales information with our inventory and accounting applications, Micros' open platform and industry standard design offers Big Boy Restaurants a great advantage."

Representatives of Columbia, Md.-based Micros said the e7 line combines all-in-one Workstation 4 hardware with embedded software based on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows CE .NET operating system. They said MICROS initially will approach Big Boy franchisees that need to upgrade legacy POS systems to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
