MIAMI Burger King Corp. is giving users of the social-networking Facebook site a chance to dump their friends for a free Whopper.
The burger chain released the “Whopper Sacrifice” application on Facebook at the first of the year, rewarding those who remove 10 of their Facebook “friends” with a coupon for a free burger. Each time a Facebook friend is dumped, the application sends a message to the dumpee that declares food is stronger than friendship.
Whopper Sacrifice was created by Burger King’s ad agency, Crispin Porter Bogusky of Miami, which also crafted the Whopper Virgins and burger-scented cologne ads.
The application is available at whoppersacrifice.com and at Facebook. The Whopper Sacrifice application has been downloaded by about 15,000 users.
