As potential presidential contenders debate the mechanics of job growth this year, they need only look to the restaurant industry for inspiration.
After two years of job losses in 2009 and 2010, the restaurant industry rebounded with solid job gains in 2011. By last November the industry had regained the jobs lost during the recession — far outpacing the economy overall, which isn’t expected to reach pre-recession hiring rates until 2014.
Though hiring trends within the foodservice industry aren’t expected to return fully to growth seen during the pre-recession heyday, the outlook for this year and going forward is positive, according to a recent forecast by the National Restaurant Association.
