ORLANDO Fla. On Labor Day, 400 Wendy's units in Florida will give away coupons for more than a million free Double Stack hamburgers.

AWendy's official said in a press release that the giveaway was the chain's way of helping out workers in the state, which has been among the hardest hit by the housing market slump.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1, the first 50 dine-in customers at each of the 400 participating stores will receive a book of 52 coupons good for a free Double Stack. The Wendy's units involved in the giveaway are spread across the 30 counties that make up the areas of Orlando, Daytona, Ocala, Melbourne, West Palm Beach, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Lakeland, Fort Myers and Naples.

The Double Stack, which sells for 99 cents on Wendy's value menu, is made with two hamburger patties, cheese, onions and pickles.

Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy's has more than 6,600 units.
