Each month, Nation’s Restaurant News presents highlights of recent same-store sales results from the more than 70 public restaurant companies and divisions it tracks.

The quick-service segment led the pack in latest-quarter average same-store sales growth, at 3.1%, followed by the coffee/snack and fast casual segments. Meanwhile, the casual dining, family dining/buffet and pizza segments saw declines.

Texas Roadhouse has outpaced 24 other casual-dining competitors on same-store sales growth several years running. In fact, it’s four-year annual same-store sales stack of 20.6% compares with a 2.8% average stack for other casual-dining brands.

Among pizza brands, Papa John’s had its first positive comps since founder and former chief executive John Schnatter’s controversial comments tied to race beginning in late 2017. And Rave Restaurant Group’s fast-casual pizza brand Pie Five suffered sequential and year-over-year setbacks in its first quarter.

Take a look at recent same-store sales highlights.
