Total average sales growth in the Beverage-Snack segment accelerated slightly, with systemwide sales in the segment increasing 6.38 percent in the Latest Year compared to 6.27 percent the Preceding Year.

While store openings drove that growth at chains such as Dunkin’ Donuts and Auntie Anne’s Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels, at other brands higher per-unit sales were the accelerant.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts bested the rest of its Beverage-Snack peers, including Starbucks Coffee, with estimated sales per unit, or ESPU, of more than $2.4 million at its 239 U.S. locations in the Latest Year. Its 4.8-percent growth rate in ESPU also was one of the segment’s higher increases, trailing only those of Starbucks and Jamba Juice.
