VANCOUVER Wash. The Burgerville gourmet quick-service chain said it has started serving local beers and wines in a pilot program at one of its Vancouver-area restaurants.
The 39-unit chain's restaurant in Salmon Creek offers the beer and wine between 11 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. There is a two-drink maximum, and no alcohol is served in the drive-thru.
"Burgerville believes that there is a demand for beer and wine by their guests," said Burgerville chief executive Jeff Harvey, "and the decision to pilot this program at the Salmon Creek restaurant was made in keeping with the company's commitment to keep pace with the changing palettes of these guests."
Sommelier Christine Tran selected the beers and wines to pair with Burgerville's menu items, the chain said. The beers are priced between $3.50 and $4 a glass and include Widmer Hefeweizen, Full Sail Amber and Terminal Gravity ESG. The wines on the menu sell between $6.50 and $9 a glass and include Ponzi Tavola Pinot Noir, O'Reilly Pinot Gris and the Eyrie Vineyards Chardonnay.
In addition to its core burger lineup, Burgerville's menu highlights seasonal gourmet dishes that change monthly. In May, the chain is serving asparagus in two dishes: Asparagus Fries, made with locally sourced asparagus; and a Grilled Asparagus Melt, made with asparagus, fresh mozzarella and tomato on sourdough bread.
Burgerville plans to open its 40th restaurant this summer in Tigard, Ore.
