Dunn Brothers Coffee, the specialty coffee franchise group, has named Scott Harvey as president, the company said Tuesday.

The Minneapolis, Minn.-based Dunn Brothers said Harvey succeeds Kim Plahn as president. Plahn has left the brand, a spokesperson said.

Prior to Golden Krust, Harvey served as president and chief operating officer of Salt Lake City, Utah-based Black Rifle Coffee, which also specializes in small-batch roasting, where he guided the launch of the brand’s consumer packaged goods program and designed a new store prototype. Harvey also worked with Nathan’s Famous and Einstein Noah’s Restaurant Group.

“In his new role at Dunn Brothers, Scott will be spearheading the brand’s latest franchise initiative, which will prioritize a smaller footprint through a drive-thru model, as well as leading its CPG initiatives,” a Dunn Brothers spokesperson said.

Harvey, who will work closely with the team at Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Gala Capital Partners, the parent company of Dunn Brothers, said: “Amid a thriving coffee segment, Dunn Brothers has carved out a distinct niche with its premium coffee and food positioning, dynamic store experience and modernized operations. We are ready to share the experience with more communities through our franchise and CPG initiatives.”

Anand Gala, managing partner at Gala Capital Partners, in a statement said: “A year into our Dunn Brothers investment, the time is now for us to bring our vision for the brand to life, and Scott is the right leader to do it.”

Gala acquired Dunn Brothers Coffee in 2022 and later bought Rusty Taco from Inspire Brands. It also owns Cicis Pizza and Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes.

Dunn Brothers, founded by Ed and Dan Dunn in 1987, has more than 50 franchise locations across seven states.
