Also called a tequila mule or mezcal mule, a Mexican Mule is a spin on the popular Moscow Mule with tequila or mezcal stepping in for vodka. Agave spirits mixed with the classic ginger beer and lime juice are a spin that’s just as refreshing as the original, but with trendier and more flavorful spirits.
The spins on this increasingly popular cocktail are endless; among the most common are infusions of orange juice or berry purées, although spicy versions aren’t out of the question, and adding local spins with seasonal fruit, or vegetables such as rhubarb, is another way to make this drink your own. Any way you mix it, consumers are craving this effervescent beverage in a new way.
Market research firm Datassential reports that Mexican mules are found on 1.2% of menus, up 36% over the past four years.
