Tim Hortons is offering two new models of its restaurants, including a 900-square-foot drive-thru-only version, the company said Monday.

The division of Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International Inc. said “new next generation restaurant designs for the U.S.” will also include a 24-seat, 1,600-square-foot version. The first drive-thru-only restaurant is scheduled to open this summer. 

Older legacy Tim Hortons restaurants are about 2,500 square feet or larger, a company spokesperson said.

“Our guests are looking for great service, high-quality coffee and food, and they want to feel safe when visiting Tim Hortons restaurants. Our new restaurant design offers all of that and more,” said Jay Pritchett, Tim Hortons U.S. head of marketing, said in a statement.

The new model also features a mobile pick up shelf and VIP mobile order parking spots, the company noted.

As part of the update, the menu has been simplified, the company said, but it does include new items such as energy drinks.

The first drive-thru-only model will open this summer.. The company said additional Tim Hortons units are planned throughout 2022 across Michigan, New York, Ohio and West Virginia.

Tim Hortons, founded in 1964 in Canada, has more than 4,800 systemwide restaurants in Canada and around the world. Tim Hortons has 634 units in the United States. Parent Restaurant Brands International also owns the Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Firehouse Subs concepts.

Update June 6, 2022: This story has been edited to include the size of traditional Tim Hortons restaurants, to add the U.S. unit count and to correct where the first drive-thru was expected to open.
