This is part of Nation’s Restaurant News’ annual Second 100 report, a proprietary census ranking restaurant brands Nos. 101-200 by U.S. systemwide sales and other data. This special report focuses on a smaller, more growth-oriented universe than the Top 100 report.
Twin Peaks led the Casual-Dining segment in systemwide sales growth in this year’s Second 100.
Theft of market share remained a theme among the 42 Casual-Dining chains in the Second 100.
Twin Peaks, a division of Addison, Texas-based Front Burner Restaurants L.P., not only led the Second 100 Casual-Dining players with its 69.2-percent systemwide sales growth — it bested the entire Second 100 roster.
By contrast, domestic systemwide sales for all 42 Casual-Dining brands were up only 2.4 percent, totaling $9.4 billion in the Latest Year.
“There’s not a whole lot of new growth on average. We are clearly in a market share battle,” said Wally Doolin, founder of Dallas-based analytics firms Black Box Intelligence and parent TDn2K.
