Brinker reports mixed results, touts importance of value diners and company-owned stores

Brinker International Inc., parent to Chili's and Maggiano's Little Italy, is coming off an unusual few months. In June the company revealed an exclusive partnership with DoorDash for delivery, and in July it announced plans to purchase 116 Chili's units from franchisee ERJ Dining. Both announcements are integral to their business model going forward, executives said during their fourth-quarter earnings call. 

Brinker reported net income of $46.7 million, or $1.22 a share, for its fourth quarter, ended June 26, up from $43.8 million, or $1.01 a share, in the same period last year. Revenue rose to $804.8 million, up from $791.4 million.
