LEBANON Tenn. The parent of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store promoted Douglas E. Barber to chief operating officer and executive vice president while announcing the resignation of chief marketing officer Simon Turner.

In his new post, Barber oversees all restaurant and retail operations for the 575-unit family dining chain, which is wholly operated by CBRL. He is also responsible for training and real estate development. Barber was previously senior vice president of restaurant operations.

Mike Woodhouse, CBRL’s chairman, president and chief executive, had been serving as the interim COO since the July 2006 retirement of Cy Taylor, who was also president.

The company said Wednesday that CMO and senior vice president Turner resigned “to pursue other opportunities.” CBRL said it would conduct a nationwide search to replace him.

CBRL, based here, operates 575 Cracker Barrel restaurant and gift shops in 41 states.
