Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon and Texas Land & Cattle Steak House said Thursday that Patrick Droesch had been named president of both brands.

Droesch joined parent Lone Star Management of Plano, Texas, as chief operating officer in June. Before joining Lone Star, Droesch spent 14 years with Brinker International of Dallas, where he was most recently regional vice president of operations for 400 company-owned Chili’s Grill & Bar units in the western United States.

Earlier in September, Lone Star closed 19 casual-dining units across a wide area, including Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan and North Carolina.

The company said Thursday that it now operates 111 Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon units and 26 Texas Land & Cattle Steak Houses.

Lone Star Steak House & Saloon, founded in Wichita, Kan., was acquired in December 2006 by an affiliated company of Dallas-based Lone Star Funds, which also controls the higher-end Sullivan's and Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House brands.

Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon had estimated fiscal 2009 system-wide sales of about $253 million, down from estimated sales of $314.5 million in 2008, according to the latest Nation’s Restaurant News Top 200 census. At its high-water mark, in fiscal 1998, the chain had U.S. system-wide sales of about $523 million from 265 locations.
