Darden Restaurants posts 2% increase in same-store sales in what CEO Gene Lee calls a 'tough' quarter

LongHorn Steakhouse boosted Darden Restaurants Inc. in its latest quarter and despite a shaky start from Olive Garden, which was hampered by a poor performing lasagna meal promotion.

The Orlando-based company posted a 2% increase in same-store sales across all of its casual and fine dining brands in its latest quarter. LongHorn gave Darden its biggest lift with a 6.7% increase in same-store sales, the brand’s 27th consecutive quarter of same-restaurant growth. 

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Seasons 52 and Bahama Breeze posted negative same-store sales growth, while Olive Garden reported growth of 1.5%. While it was the Italian brand’s 21st consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth, it was the lowest increase reported in the past year.
