LOS ALTOS Calif. Bruce MacDiarmid has been named president and chief operating officer of the Black Angus Steakhouse chain, officials said Tuesday.

MacDiarmid, who has been the chain's chief operating officer for two years, succeeds Ralph Roberts, who is retiring after more than 20 years as president.

MacDiarmid, who joined Black Angus in 2005, previously had worked with Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurants.

Black Angus, based here, has 82 restaurants in 10 states, primarily in the Western United States.
