We constantly have our eyes peeled for the next great restaurant concept. For the sixth year, Nation’s Restaurant News editors have selected a new class of Breakout Brands.
The eight brands on this year’s list all have something special going for them. We were impressed not only by their demonstration of the basics of any good restaurant — a dedication to creative and high-quality food, standout service and sound leadership — but also their ambitions to expand, their ability to attract serious funding, and their commitment to providing a customer experience that goes above and beyond.
This year’s Breakout Brands represent current trends that are heating up the industry — Indian, Latin and Mediterranean cuisines; counter-service and fast-casual formats; and elevated but approachable dining. They also have beginnings ranging from humble to well heeled — just see Maria Empanada, which was founded by a new immigrant to the U.S. with only a couple hundred dollars in her pocket, and Zaytinya, created by another immigrant, José Andrés, but with the power of his large restaurant group behind it.
Make sure to watch these Breakout Brands.
