Chipotle Mexican Grill has reopened 85% of its dining rooms, including some patio seating, but CEO Brian Niccol said most consumers are still taking their meals home.
“We've recaptured about 40% to 50% of that dining room business. But it's a gradual thing,” Niccol told investors during the company’s second-quarter earnings call. “Every week goes by, I think the consumer psyche starts to build with the idea of going back into the dining room.”
Niccol is not too bothered by diners walking out the door with meal. The Newport Beach, Calif.-based company is well positioned to serve consumers with a slew of digital ordering choices, he added.
“Our digital platform has been a big beneficiary of the current environment,” Niccol said.
