Chipotle Mexican Grill’s new carne asada contributed to higher check averages and a boost in new customer traffic during the brand’s latest quarter, but the chain said the product won’t be sticking around much longer.

"We only have enough supply for carne asada to last us for part of the quarter," John Hartung, Chipotle's chief financial officer, told investors during the company’s third-quarter conference call.

The Newport Beach, Calif.-based chain, which introduced the new spicy steak protein in mid-September for a limited time, said the company is finding it hard to find product to meet the brand’s standards.
