Burritos are out and bowls are in at Chipotle Mexican Grill.

The fast-casual chain, whose food with integrity philosophy was built on selling hefty foil-wrapped burritos, said bowls are the most popular items on the menu.

“Rule of thumb is ⅔ bowls. Next is burritos followed by tacos,” CEO Brian Niccol said Tuesday during the chain's fourth quarter earnings call. “The reality is our business continues to show a slight migration to bowls.”

The pivot is good news for the brand.

Niccol said bowls can be made quickly and offer consumers the kind of uber-customization they desire. Over the past 12 months, the company has highlighted bowls in various free delivery and app promotions.
