Earlier this year, officials with The Cheesecake Factory expressed optimism that the shopping-mall-friendly restaurant chain would soon be accelerating unit growth.

Malls are starting to grow again, said David Overton, the chair and chief executive of The Cheesecake Factory Inc., in a bit of welcome news for a brand that has most of its restaurants located in and around shopping centers.

“We’re starting to see more centers being built and more remodels,” he said while reporting the company’s first-quarter financial performance. “There’s no question about it. Each one of the major mall builders is starting to build.”
