"After nearly four years of transformational leadership and growth, I'm thrilled to congratulate Donnie on this wonderful achievement," said Charlie Morrison, Wingstop CEO and chairman, in a statement.

"People are the foundation of our strategy,” Morrison said, “and Donnie has made a tremendous impact on our talent framework and culture, which has propelled us forward with industry-leading growth."

Upshaw was instrumental in instilling into the company what it calls “The Wingstop Way,” which focuses on the cultural values of service, authenticity, entrepreneurship and fun.

He also led the process for the purchase and renovation of Wingstop's global support center in Addison that covers more than 75,000 square feet and is fully powered by wind-based energy.

The company said that as chief people officer, Upshaw will continue to lead culture and talent management strategy for Wingstop's support center and corporate-owned restaurants.

For the third quarter ended Sept. 25, Wingstop’s net income rose to $11.3 million, or 38 cents a share, from $10.1 million, or 34 cents a share, in the prior-year period. Revenues increased to $65.8 million from $64 million in the same quarter last year.
