Church’s Chicken has added a strawberry shortcake dessert to its menu just in time for a summer holidays like Memorial Day and Fourth of July, the chain said.

The item, a permanent addition to the quick-serve chicken chain’s menu, is hand-made from scratch and consists of a honey-butter biscuit topped with strawberries in strawberry sauce and whipped cream. The item retails for $1.29 each, and is offered through a promotion with the chain’s family box of chicken. With the purchase of any regular-priced family meal, customers can purchase four strawberry shortcakes for a total of $3.99.

The chain said the shortcake, which debuted systemwide in April, is the first dessert item to be added to the menu in several years. The last permanent dessert item added to the menu was apple pie. The item’s roll out is part of a plan to upgrade the chain’s menu with fresh, high-quality and flavorful items.

“We listened to our guests and knew the time was right to offer a dessert that would complement our signature meals,” said Tony Lavely, chief marketing officer for Church’s. “And even though this is a permanent menu item, the timing is right for this refreshing dessert with summer, Memorial Day and Fourth of July quickly approaching.”

Atlanta-based Church’s Chicken has about 1,700 stores in 22 countries.
