COSTA MESA Calif. El Pollo Loco has brought back barbecued chicken as a limited-time offer, and also introduced a new BBQ Chicken Slider, officials announced Friday.

Flavored variations of the chain’s citrus-marinated chicken have been offered in the past, but the barbecue version, with a smoky, chipotle-spiked sauce, has been one of the most popular, officials said. The barbecued chicken is available through July 26 as an alternative to the traditional grilled chicken. Both barbecue and traditional eight-piece meals will be available for the discounted price of $6.99 during the promotion, $4 off the regular price of $10.99.

The new sliders, also available through July 26, include the barbecued chicken layered with cole slaw on a snack-sized grilled mini roll. The recommended price is 99 cents.

“These are challenging times and we want to make it easier for people to enjoy our flame-grilled chicken with great offers and exciting new products,” said Karen Eadon, El Pollo Loco’s chief marketing officer.

Based in Costa Mesa, Calif., the El Pollo Loco chain includes more than 400 restaurants in 14 states.
