WINSTON-SALEM N.C. Krispy Kreme said it is bringing back its heart-shaped doughnuts to the menu for Valentine's Day and promoting them with a free doughnut offer.

The heart-shaped doughnuts are topped with white icing and red, white and pink sprinkles. They are priced at 99 cents each or $6.99 for a dozen, said a spokeswoman for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, which operates or franchises 520 units worldwide.

As part of its "Share the Love" promotion, Krispy Kreme said any customer who buys a dozen doughnuts will receive 12 Valentine's Day cards that each contain a coupon for a free doughnut.

The heart-shaped doughnuts and coupon promotion are available at participating stores through Feb. 14.

AKrispy Kreme spokeswoman said it was the chain's fourth year to promote the Valentine's Day cards and coupon offer. The promotion inspired asimilar offer over the holidays, when Krispy Kreme gave away 12 gift tags with free-doughnut coupons to each purchaser of a dozen doughnuts.
