Chain will move its corporate office to the location this spring
If you’ve ever craved culturally-inspired and funky foods served at international McDonald's restaurants, look no further than Chicago.
McDonald’s unveiled a slick, modern restaurant on Wednesday at its new Chicago headquarters that features a smorgasbord of phenom foods found at its global locations. The restaurant is on the ground floor of the chain’s new corporate offices, where employees are expected to relocate later this spring.
“We are delighted to showcase a taste of McDonald’s from all over the world, making this location a one-of-a-kind experience that Chicagoans will enjoy with friends and family,” McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook said in a statement.
The menu will rotate on a regular basis. To debut, it features loaded bacon and cheese fries found at Australian McDonald’s restaurants, the McSpicy Chicken Sandwich from Hong Kong, the Mighty Angus Burger from Canada, the McFlurry Prestígio from Brazil and two salads from France.
One the French dishes is a cold pasta salad drizzled with balsamic dressing and tossed with roasted tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, arugula leaves and a choice of crispy or grilled chicken, served with a breadstick.
The 6,000-square-foot restaurant sports the company’s modern “McDonald’s Experience of the Future” look with contemporary furniture and fixtures, a pickup counter for UberEats, and a handful of self-ordering kiosks. To date, McDonald’s has transformed nearly 3,000 units in the U.S. to the new look, either through remodels or rebuilds.
The restaurant, in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, will have an illuminated wall map to showcase the location of the international locales featured on the rotating menu. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The move later this spring to the nine-story building will mark McDonald’s return to downtown Chicago, where it previously had been headquartered from 1955 through 1971. A company spokesman told the Chicago Tribune that the chain would begin moving some 2,000 workers to the new offices, on the site of Oprah Winfrey's former Harpo Studios, over the next few weeks.
