WEST PALM BEACH Fla. Guests at City Pizza, a table-service and take-out restaurant here, now can close and pay their tab at their discretion using a credit card and a computerized payment kiosk from SoftTouch LLC.
"Sometimes people are in a hurry and won't sit down to eat because they are afraid it will take too long," City Pizza owner Larry Jacobi said of why he added the SoftPay kiosk by SoftTouch, a Margate, Fla.-based point-of-sale-system provider. Now, he said, if a dine-in guest or take-out customer is in a hurry "they self-pay whenever they are ready to leave."
Guests activate the touchscreen kiosk and call up their bills for review using chip-embedded cards left at their tables by servers. They finalize their transactions and print out receipts after swiping their credit cards and signing on a digital capture pad.
Besides giving guests more payment options and a sense of security by letting them to swipe their own credit cards, SoftPay can help operators build table turns while cutting labor costs, SoftTouch sources said.
