Taco Bell is testing another unconventional taco shell — a carb-heavy counterpart to the Naked Egg Taco.

The French Toast Chalupa, a new breakfast taco, is in test at restaurants in Dayton, Ohio. The menu item is a folded French toast Chalupa shell stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, served with a side of syrup. It’s priced at $2.49.

The item is reminiscent of other buzzy breakfast concoctions served at Taco Bell in the past, including a Biscuit Taco and Waffle Taco. It also comes less than a year after the Irvine, Calif.-based quick-service chain introduced the Naked Egg Taco.

The latter, a protein-heavy morning meal of a fried egg fashioned into a taco shell, riffed on the chain’s popular Naked Chicken Chalupa.

Taco Bell also said it is testing a Queso Quesarito in Birmingham, Ala., priced at $2.99. The item includes two tortillas stuffed with queso sauce, seasoned rice, seasoned beef, chipotle sauce and sour cream.

The experimental menu items are being introduced a month after Taco Bell said its $1 french fries were its most popular new product debut since Doritos Locos Tacos in 2012. The seasoned fries with cheese sauce are now off the menu, but will return this summer, the chain said.

Taco Bell also plans to introduce a line of branded chips in retail stores, including 7-Eleven, in May. The chips mimic the taste of Taco Bell’s signature sauce packets: Mild, Fire and Classic.
