GLENVIEW Ill. Bar Louie Development Inc., operator or franchisor of the namesake restaurant and bar concept, said it expects to open five more franchised units this year.

The new stores will be located in Michigan, Indian and eastern Pennsylvania. The company said it has another 25 units in various states of development across the country.

Bar Louie, founded in 1991 in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, has grown to 52 units, including seven franchised restaurants, and is registered in 41 states to offer franchises. The company said it is looking for area developers who can open three or more units, but said it also would consider single-unit franchisees in certain areas.

With its lunch, happy hour, dinner and late-night day parts, the concept is well-suited to handle today’s current economic challenges, said Michigan area developer Zubin Antia.

“Bar Louie has created a recipe for success,” he said.
