Cracker Barrel guests can earn double rewards when they order egg dishes through Feb. 12
The price of eggs might be through the roof — in many places, a dozen is going for more than $9 — but Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. is taking advantage of the zeitgeist to issue a special limited-time promotion on all egg dishes.
While competitor Waffle House adds a temporary 50-cent surcharge to its menu to cover the rising cost of eggs due to the bird flu outbreak, Cracker Barrel said its prices will remain the same. Not only that, but the Lebanon, Tenn.-based company will also offer double pegs (loyalty reward points) for all egg dishes ordered through the Cracker Barrel rewards app from Thursday Feb. 6- Wednesday, Feb. 12.
“A surcharge on eggs? Well, there’s nothing hospitable about that,” a Cracker Barrel spokesperson said. “At Cracker Barrel, country hospitality is as important to us as a hearty breakfast – and that means not charging extra for eggs…. We know our guests already have a lot on their plates, so we’ll just stay focused on serving up plates of delicious food at incredible value.”
When Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Felss-Masino introduced Cracker Barrel’s multi-pillar turnaround plan last May, marketing transformation was the first pillar introduced. In a recent interview with Nation’s Restaurant News, Cracker Barrel chief marketing officer, Sarah Moore, called the brand’s new approach, “an evolution, not a revolution.”
“We're showing up everywhere,” Moore said during the ICR conference in Orlando, Fla. last month. “I would just say the one thing we're doing differently is that we're in the mix, we're paying attention, and we're amplifying what we see, when we see it happen.”
It’s not unusual for restaurant companies to use the state of the economy to inspire special deals and promotions to target inflation-weary guests, like Domino’s “moreflation” promotion last September, which was introduced as a way to combat “shrinkflation” complaints among retail and restaurant customers.
