With Leap Day on Feb. 29 this year, restaurant brands are seeking ways to weave the extra day into their promotional calendars.

Brands as varied as Cowboy Chicken, Melting Pot, and Legal Seafoods are offering specials to observe the once-every-four-year occasion.

“A perfect proposal comes down to the details, which Melting Pot is providing -- from the romantic restaurant setting to the roses and candles on the table to the ultimate five-course experience with the sparklers at the end,” Malmqvist said.

To enter for a chance to win one of four Ultimate Leap-posal on Leap Day and fondue date nights for a year (one date night per month), contestants need to fill out an entry form, share something about themselves, their partner, and their love story by 5 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 18. Four winners will be selected and contacted by the Tampa, Fla.-based brand by Feb. 22.

For information on the Ultimate Leap-posal, including official rules, visit the website.

Melting Pot, founded in 1975, has more than 90 restaurants in 31 U.S. states and Canada.

Boston-based Legal Seafoods, with 26 restaurants in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia, will be celebrating Leap Day by offering dine-in-only twin one-pound Gulf of Maine steamed lobsters for $29. Sides are extra.

Legal Seafoods is asking customers to enroll with Legal Net Rewards on Feb. 29 and receive 229 bonus points – worth more than $10 in reward value. Bonus points will be added to accounts the day after enrollment, on March 1.

Dallas-based Cowboy Chicken will be recognizing Leap Day birthdays with free wood-fire rotisserie chicken for those celebrants.

“Cowboy Chicken knows that Leap Day birthdays don’t occur every year, and that’s cause for a big celebration when they do,” the company said in a press release.

Cowboy Chicken will offer one free whole chicken per person to those whose birthdays fall on Feb. 29. Guests must appear in person at their nearest Cowboy Chicken store and must show identification proving that their birthday is Feb. 29. This offer is available during operating hours on Feb. 29.

Cowboy Chicken has 18 restaurants.
