TGI Fridays has agreed to sell eight corporate-owned restaurants in the Northeast to former CEO Ray Blanchette, the company said Wednesday, and said it would close 36 underperforming locations domestically.
In other news, KFC created new variations of its popular chicken sandwich with last summer’s launch of the Ultimate BBQ fried chicken sandwich and its test of the Spicy Slaw chicken sandwich. Now the chain is also iterating its wraps, introducing Honey BBQ and Spicy Mac & Cheese offerings to the two-for-$5 lineup.
Also, two major California Pizza Hut franchisees — PacPizza and Southern California Pizza Company — are laying off more than 1,200 delivery workers ahead of the new statewide minimum wage hike for fast food workers, from $16 an hour to $20 an hour, starting April 1.
