No doubt most members of the restaurant community are aware of the ongoing protests hitting cities across the country this summer. In particular — though not exclusively — chain brands are feeling the pressure of employee walkouts and marches being coordinated and funded by mega labor group Service Employees International Union, or SEIU, as part of its quest to unionize the service sector. With demands of a $15-per-hour minimum wage and paid sick leave, the SEIU’s marionette theatrics have been staged in nearly a dozen cities since April.
