Del Taco Restaurants Inc., the Mexican restaurant division of parent Jack in the Box Inc., is bringing back its “$2 and Under” value menu this month, the company said.

The Lake Forest, Calif.-based brand had offered the “$2 and Under” value menu two years ago, but this month’s version features new items such as snack-sized chips and fresh guacamole.

The value move comes as the brand, which had 595 restaurants at the end of the second quarter ended April 14, looks to boost transactions, which declined slightly in the period.

Jack in the Box chief financial officer Brian Scott said in a May 14 second-quarter earnings call that Del Taco same-store sales declined 1.4%, consisting of a company owned comp decrease of 1.8% and franchise comp decrease of 1.1%.

“The decline in sales is a result of declines in transactions partially offset by a lift in price,” Scott said.

“The new value menu features tacos, burritos, nachos, snacks, and snack-sized chips, and fresh house-made guacamole – the newest addition to the value menu,” a company representative said.

Del Taco's head of marketing, Sheena Dougher, added: “We believe that the ‘Del’s Real Deal$ Menu’ offers an unbeatable blend of quality, variety and affordability.”
