Charlotte, N.C-based doughnut chain Krispy Kreme announced Monday the release of Doughnut Dots — the brand’s take on the classic doughnut holes menu item. This is Krispy Kreme’s first time releasing doughnut holes in the brand’s 87-year history. The new Doughnut Dots are available in powdered, sprinkle, cinnamon, and cookie crumb varieties starting June 10 at participating Krispy Kreme shops.

“Krispy Kreme fans can now double down on delicious when picking up their regular dozen by enjoying our new lineup of Doughnut Dots,” Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a statement. “They’re bite-sized, fun, and made fresh daily. They’re perfect for sharing or you can pop 'em yourself when you’re on the go!”

Whether they’re known as Munchkins, Pop’Ems, or Timbits (depending on if they are being sold by Dunkin’, Entenmann’s, or Tim Horton’s), doughnut holes are a staple of many doughnut brands. For Krispy Kreme, the launch of Doughnut Dots is a departure from the company’s long-time menu strategy that tends to focus on seasonal LTOs and partnerships with outside brands.

Doughnut Dots, on the other hand, are a permanent addition to the menu and one of the brand’s first new menu categories in a long time. It is also possible Krispy Kreme will use the new doughnut size as an opportunity to get creative with future LTO menu items.

The Doughnut Dots come in a 10-count cup or 24-count box and are available in-store and for pickup or delivery every day via digital order on the brand’s app or website.  To celebrate the arrival of the new menu item, Krispy Kreme announced new Dollar Doughnut Dot Days from June 10-16, where guests will get a cup of 10 Dots for $1 with the purchase of any dozen doughnuts.
