It’s been a year since Chris Kempczinski took over as chief executive of one of the world’s most popular burger brands. During that time, McDonald’s has been rocked by a global pandemic and has had to address accusations of racial injustice at the chain. 

It’s not been an easy year but Kempczinski has made several moves — before and during the pandemic — to make major changes at the company. The most recent announcement came earlier this month when he and his executive leadership team introduced the chain’s new Accelerating the Arches growth plan.  The growth plan includes everything from enchanced drive-thru innovation to the introduction of a new plant-based menu.
