McDonald's Corp. has named Jill McDonald as president of Its international operated markets, the company said Wednesday.

The Chicago-based burger brand also said Jo Semples will continue to lead the international developmental licensed markets as senior vice president and president, IDL. Semples’ responsibilities will now include McDonald’s China business.

Chris Kempczinski, McDonald’s CEO, said in a message to the company’s global system: “As our global business and our two international segments continue to grow, each can further benefit from strong leadership teams focused closely on their needs — supporting the strong bench of talent in their segments and representing the perspectives of their markets on the global senior leadership team.”

In June, McDonald’s announced Kevin Ozan would move Sept. 1 from chief financial officer to lead strategic initiatives and Ian Borden would succeed him as CFO. The company also named Marion Gross as global chief supply chain officer.

From a financial reporting standpoint, this represents no change as we've always reported international perated markets (IOM) results separate from international developmental licensee markets (IDLM).”

McDonald, left, earlier had served as president for McDonald’s Northern Europe division and had served as managing director of the U.K. business and chief marketing officer for the U.K. She previously worked in marketing with Colgate Palmolive and British Airways.

“Jill's accomplishments with McDonald's and her deep marketing expertise and experience leading several consumer-focused businesses (including most recently as CEO of Costa Coffee) make her the perfect leader to accelerate the next phase of the IOM segment's growth,” Kempczinski said.

He said McDonald will work closely with Manu Steijaert, chief customer officer, and Morgan Flatley, chief marketing officer. She assumes the position Sept. 5 and will report to Kempczinski.

He will join the senior leadership team and report to Kempczinski as well.

“I am extremely proud of our International team's progress in driving our Accelerating the Arches strategy,” Kempczinski said. “With Jill, Jo and their leaders in respective segments, we are well positioned to continue building on our success. I look forward to even greater growth across these markets through an enhanced customer and crew experience, and improved connectivity and collaboration between our market and global teams.”

McDonald's has more than 39,000 locations in over 100 countries.
