As part of its promotional partnership for the upcoming release of the movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” McDonald’s Corp. is offering one of 12 new Tune Square character toys in a specially branded Happy Meal.

The Chicago-based burger brand on Tuesday debuted its “Space Jam: A New Legacy Happy Meal,” providing a sequel to the company’s partnership with the first movie in 1996.

“Space Jam: A New Legacy,” a Warner Bros. animated and live-action movie with National Basketball League great LeBron James, is scheduled for a July 16 release. The 1996 original featured basketball player Michael Jordan.

Last week, McDonald’s began offering clothing, created by skateboard lifestyle brand Diamond Supply Co., that includes jerseys, shorts, sweatshirts and more inspired by the film. The collection features such characters as Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny and Taz.

"We're all looking forward to the [‘Space Jam’] premiere and can't wait to help our fans gear up for the event with this official merch collection," said Jennifer Healan, McDonald's vice president of U.S. marketing, brand content and engagement, in a statement.

"From bringing fans closer to the celebrities they love with our Famous Orders campaigns, to dropping apparel so they can suit up with the iconic Tune Squad, we're always looking for new ways to excite and connect with our customers,” Healan said. The most recent Famous Orders debuted in May and featured the K-pop singing group BTS.

McDonald's USA LLC has about 14,000 U.S. restaurants, 95% of which are operated by franchise owners.
