McDonald’s Corp. will be returning the Shamrock Shake and OREO Shamrock McFlurry to its U.S. menus on Feb. 21 for a limited time, and this year the brand is highlighting its color.

The Chicago-based burger brand is teasing the color hex code, or the hexadecimal formula, that renders the red, green and blue (RGB) in computer HTML coding to produce the springy shake green.

“The only thing more refreshing than the delicious taste of a Shamrock Shake is the way that minty green hue makes the ‘will-winter-ever-end' blues go away,” the company said in a press notice. “In our 50-plus years of serving up this tasty treat, we’ve never given away the secret ingredient that makes Shamrock Shake green so iconic.”

And the company is teasing that colorful ingredient, hashtagged as #cbf2ac, on Twitter and hinting at surprises to come.

It noted that customers have deployed the Shamrock Shake color in everything from clothing to manicures. It is urging those patrons to display their celebrations by using the #cbf2ac and #ShamrockShakeSZN hashtags in posts.

“Starting Feb. 21, our Shamrock green hex code just might unlock another tasty secret,” the company said. “That is, if you know where to look. Be one of the first to figure out the mystery and you could get a little something special from us.”

The Shamrock Shake for more than 50 years offered vanilla soft serve, blended with mint flavor and crowned with a whipped topping.

The Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, introduced in February 2020 on the Shamrock Shake’s 50th anniversary, combines vanilla soft serve with the Shamrock Shake flavor and Oreo cookie pieces.

McDonald’s USA LLC has about 13,500 restaurants nationwide, with about 95% of those owned by franchisees.
