Subway restaurants has hired industry veteran Donagh Herlihy as its new global chief digital and information officer, the company said Monday.

The Milford, Conn.-based quick-service sandwich brand said Herlihy is responsible for overseeing the company's worldwide technology teams for both franchisees and guests.

"We're thrilled to welcome Donagh to the Subway team," said John Chidsey, Subway CEO, in a statement. "His extensive knowledge and understanding of QSR brands and restaurant technology will allow us to accelerate our digital transformation, ultimately resulting in a better guest experience as well as revenue growth and operating efficiency for our franchisees."

Herlihy added that he was excited “to join Subway and be a part of enhancing the brand's digital experience, from the way we interact with our guests to how we help our global network of franchisees operate their businesses.”

Earlier this year, Subway said it was planning to move several of its corporate divisions from its longtime headquarters in Milford, Conn., to Miami.

The quick-service brand said it would move its “consumer facing” businesses to Miami, including culinary, marketing and “global transformation,” by 2022.

“A Miami presence allows us to keep our finger on the pulse of more cultural conversations and the evolving tastes of the modern consumer,” a Subway spokesperson said.

Subway has more than 40,000 units in 100 countries worldwide.
