Taco Bell has launched a “name your price tool” on its mobile app to help consumers control how much they want to spend. With the tool, consumers can set a subtotal dollar amount, ranging from $5 to $25 (excluding taxes, fees, tips, and extras), that they want to spend. The tool then randomizes menu items within that dollar amount so consumers can understand all the options within their budget.

Menu items can then be “pinned” into users’ cart and re-randomized to pull up different combinations within that desired price range. Drinks, freezes, combos, boxes, party packs, Meal for 2, Meal for 4, sauces, Passes, and Early Access products are not shown in the tool.

The feature’s introduction comes as consumers continue to show discernment about their restaurant spending, with traffic reductions across much of the industry. Enabling them to understand what they can get for their specific budget could potentially help put them at ease.

New items in test

Taco Bell is also testing a couple of new menu items. A Caliente Cantina Chicken Menu is currently available in the Cincinnati market. It includes the Cantina Chicken Crispy Taco, Cantina Chicken Soft Taco, Cantina Chicken Burrito, Cantina Chicken Quesadilla, and Cantina Chicken Bowl all with a new Caliente sauce. The sauce is made with red jalapeño peppers.

New Agua Refresca flavors are now also in test in the Charlotte, N.C., market. The beverages include fruit flavors mixed with real fruit pieces and green tea and flavors include Strawberry Passionfruit, Mango Peach, and Dragonfruit Berry.

Finally, the Double Decker Taco will make its return nationwide Oct. 10 through Oct. 30 for $2. The offering includes a crunchy taco shell filled with seasoned beef, shredded lettuce, and cheddar cheese all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla filled with refried beans.
