WINSTON-SALEM N.C. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said it has promoted Darryl R. Marsch to general counsel, senior vice president and assistant secretary.

Marsch joined Krispy Kreme in May 2007 as vice president and associate general counsel and has been leading the company's legal department on an interim basis. His experience includes work as a senior counsel at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. here and as a trade attorney with the Jones Day law firm in Washington.

"We are extremely pleased that Darryl Marsch will now be officially leading the Krispy Kreme legal team," Jim Morgan, Krispy Kreme's chairman, president and chief executive, said in a statement. "Darryl is an astute litigator who also possesses the important interpersonal skills needed to work with leaders across our company and help us accomplish our strategic initiatives."

Krispy Kreme, based here, operates or franchises 494 doughnut shops.
