Cathy Cooney has been appointed senior vice president and chief people officer for Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc., the company said Wednesday.

Cooney replaces Bill Streitberger as CPO, but the senior vice president role is new to the position, the company said.

Before joining Red Robin, Cooney served as executive vice president of human resources for Carefusion, a medical technology company. Before spending 14 years in the health care industry, Cooney worked in human resource roles at Pepsico Inc. and Frito-Lay Inc.

Steve Carley, Red Robin’s chief executive, said Cooney will help the company establish its human resources vision and strategies for building a world-class team.
