Ben Leventhal has set a power table for two, folding his online reservation company under the auspices of American Express.
Resy, co-founded by CEO Leventhal in 2014, has been gaining clout in the restaurant space against its largest rival, OpenTable, and the sale to Amex last year stands to bolster those efforts. Resy offers table management and a booking technology suite for restaurants as well as a consumer-facing restaurant reservation app and website.
“American Express has always been a powerhouse in the dining space, and we know American Express card members are passionate about great food,” Leventhal said in a statement when the deal was announced. “So, we are excited to begin providing them with elevated perks and access on Resy's platform too.”
Following the acquisition, American Express offered 500 reward points to cardholders who made restaurant reservations for a six-week period in August and September and began granting cardholders other benefits, such as early access to events, including reservations for New York City’s Restaurant Week. Late last year, American Express integrated Resy with its own mobile app, providing users with streamlined access to restaurants on the Resy platform.
Resy works with over 4,000 restaurants in more than 200 cities around the world.
