CULVER CITY Calif. Sizzler USA, based here, appointed two executives to new positions and also announced a shift to a trans-fat-free cooking oil.

Forbes Collins is rejoining Sizzler as director of operations after a two-year absence from the company. Collins was formerly director of West Coast operations for Sizzler before he left for a position with the Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Express chain in 2004.

Randy Hallowell, a 25-year-veteran of Sizzler who has worked most recently in franchisee support, has been named director of franchise operations.

In an unrelated move, Sizzler officials said the 233-unit grill chain is transitioning to the use of trans-fat-free cottonseed-blended frying oil. The new oil is being used in all corporate-owned and franchisee locations in California, as well as some franchisee-owned units outside the state. In coming months, the change will become mandatory for all units, officials said.
