Burger King Corp. has named Jerrell Moore chief diversity officer, a role that supports inclusion efforts for the company’s workforce, franchisees and guests.

This is a newly created position reporting into Jose Tomas, chief people officer.

Moore was most recently director of diversity and inclusion at MassMutual Financial Group. There, he was responsible for developing women’s leadership and mentorship initiatives, Miami-based Burger King said in a statement. He has also worked as a human resources manager at Nike and as a manger of diversity at CSX Corporation.

“Jerrell has worked for some of the world’s most well-known brands, and I am confident his experiences position him well to deliver on our vision to create meaningful diversity and inclusion programs in the communities in which we live and work,” said Jose Thomas, chief people officer at Burger King Corp., a subsidiary of Burger King Worldwide.

No one at Burger King was immediately available to comment on the hire. In 2012, the company said that it expanded its number of minority-owned restaurants in the U.S. by more than 10 percent.

Burger King has more than 12,600 locations systemwide.
