MINNEAPOLIS To commemorate the debut of a premium line of mocha and hot chocolate drinks, Caribou Coffee has launched its first television commercial, part of an integrated marketing campaign developed by agency Colle McVoy.

The 30-second spot, which began airing in eight cable TV markets in mid-November, features two insufferable yuppies, depicted by marionette puppets, who get jealous when they see a real person drinking Caribou’s new mocha, which is made with real Guittard chocolate.

Caribou developed the commercial not only to promote its new premium drinks, but also to begin spreading a newly solidified brand message, said Alfredo Martel, senior vice president of marketing.

Minneapolis-based Caribou Coffee also plans to promote the new drinks with a “Happy Monday” online banner ad publicizing a $2 mocha deal.
