LEXINGTON Ky. Fazoli’s Restaurants has named Damon’s International veteran Carl Howard chief executive officer of the 286-unit Italian fast-casual brand, filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Bob Weissmueller.

Howard was most recently president and CEO of Damon’s, a casual-dining operator and franchisor. He was previously involved with bd’s Mongolian Barbeque and was president and operating partner of H&H Management, a Damon’s franchisee.

“Fazoli’s is a truly unique brand,” Howard said in a statement. “It is well-positioned in the quick-service niche, and its commitment to quality is exceptional.” He said he intends to grow the 19-year-old chain, which has downsized from its peak of about 400 units six years ago. Fazoli’s operates or franchises restaurants in 28 states.

Sun Capital Partners Inc., a private-equity firm with extensive restaurant holdings, acquired Fazoli’s in 2006.
